2010 Mourvèdre, Santa Barbara County

10425_4-Mourvedre-10-webMourvèdre (also known as Mataró or Monastrell) is a red wine grape variety that is grown in many regions around the world including the Rhône and Provence regions of France, the Valencia and Jumilla denominación de origens of Spain. Though seldom seen as a single varietal, it definitely deserves its own bottling.  We give this wine all the care needed to maximize its best attributes including “delestage”, a procedure by which red grape juice must is pumped over to promote aeration for a uniform fermentation. The process deconstructs the fruit to eventually construct a wine that optimizes the aromatics, flavor, and texture. When fermentation was complete, the Mourvèdre was put to barrel for 36 months, 20% new oak. Dark, opaque and dense, the rich black currant, plum fruit character is enhanced by a spicy, clove fragrance and an intriguing forest scent. Perhaps its finest feature is the incredible texture with silky tannins that unfold the fascinating flavors. Magnums Only (1.5L): $100.00 (very limited)
